UVM Percussion Ensemble Auditions

We try to accommodate every student who wants to participate in Percussion Ensemble,
so the audition is really just about demonstrating your ability in the different areas
to help make accurate part assignments.

Audition Requirements

Students audition once every year: either in the Fall or in the Spring (for those who didn't play in the Fall).  During the pandemic we moved auditions to video submission, though you can also schedule an in-person audition if you prefer.  You'll find a Placement Audition assignment in Brightspace and you should be able to submit the video that way, however, if you run into issues you can use the UVM File Transfer Service to send me the file.  In any case, please save the video in either .mov (Apple) or .mp4 (Windows and Android) format to make it easier for me to view.  Detailed instructions can be found here.

You should play a short etude, excerpt, or solo on snare drum, timpani, and/or mallets that show your level and experience in each area.  You are welcome to use the audition material for Concert Band if you'd like, or play something you'd done in the past.
