Audition Requirements
Students audition once every year: either in the Fall
or in the Spring (for those who didn't play in the Fall).
Because of the pandemic we moved auditions to video submission and
while I miss having the chance to get to hear students play live,
most students don't miss the stress of a live audition, so we'll
continue to use video submission. You'll find a Placement
Audition assignment in Blackboard. While my preference is for
you to submit that way, if you run into issues you can use the UVM
File Transfer Service to send me the file. In any case,
please save the video in either .mov (Apple) or .mp4 (Windows and
Android) format to make it easier for me to view. Detailed
instructions can be found here.
You should play a short etude, excerpt, or solo on
snare drum, timpani, and/or mallets that show your level and
experience in each area. You are welcome to use the audition
material for Concert Band if you'd like, or play something
you'd done in the past.
